About the Event
Community-engaged research is a powerful tool for improving the health of individuals and populations and transforming health care systems to increase access to preventive and timely health services. The goal of this day long symposium was to raise awareness and increase knowledge among Rutgers health researchers and community partners of how locally-based participatory research strategies can be leveraged to improve community health and advance health equity in the diverse communities in and around New Brunswick. Invited speakers included national experts on community-partnered participatory health improvement research.

Local examples of successful partnerships were highlighted in a panel featuring past or current community health research partnerships. Other examples in New Brunswick and surrounding areas were featured in a poster session. An afternoon panel considered the funding environment for community-engaged research. Through this event, participants had the opportunity to learn from each other and to contribute to redefining the role of academic research institutions in community health improvement efforts both locally and nationally.
